A New Addition!

I don't know what it is about collecting old motorcycles, but they just seem to find me. This is the newest addition to my collection, a 1985 Honda CB650SC brought to me courtesy of my stepson Brad, who said he got it years ago as a barn find, drove it home and then parked it with intentions of fixing it up but he never got around to it and was tired of it taking up space in his garage, so he gave it to me! Thanks Brad!

Straight Out of The Eighties!

Yes, it needs some work after sitting for God knows how many years, but it's a cool addition to the collection. No title, of course, but that's not really a problem, yet. It has a key and rolls, which is nice, but so far all I can see is it needs a new solenoid (on the way) and the tires need to be changed. They're new, but Brad said he accidentally put them on the wrong way when he originally put them on and just didn't want to fuck with them again - not that I can blame him. Changing tires is an absolute Pain in The Ass...! THAT'S going to suck, taking them OFF and then putting them back ON. But the tires are new, so I guess I'll just have to suck it up.

Thanks Brad.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot wrong with it, despite that punk-ass all-over flat black paint job that he said was there when he got it. All the parts are there, and the brakes will have to be rebuilt, which is fine, but those double-piston brake calipers can be pricy. The carbs appear to work, as evidenced when I rolled the throttle and the slides moved up and down with no problems. The carbs on this bike are what's known as "Constant Velocity', or CV carbs and use a diaphragm and air pressure to work instead of a mechanical system; hopefully none of them are dry rotted; those diaphragms ain't cheap.

Brad did point out that the headlight was actually a car headlight, and not an OEM part, as evidenced by the zip ties holding it on. That will have to be fixed down the road, as those OEM headlights are rather pricy, according to an internet search. I have a manual coming, as well as a new solenoid to replace the missing one; and I'm pretty sure I have a battery that I can stick in there to see if it cranks and what lights come on, if any. I'll add more pics to my future entries when I dig into this project, but that's going to be 'down the road', as they say. And just "FYI", but this sucker is an inline four-cylinder and has SIXTEEN valves...! The lapping will take me forever, if I have to...! Let's hope not.

But with the addition of this bike, I have come to the sad realization that I just cannot have any more bikes to stash away in the Project Shed - it's FULL! I have No More Room to store any more classic motorcycles...unless, y'know, I find an early Seventies Honda CB750...or another VTR 250...I could probably squeeze one of those in there...hmmmmm.....
