Vessel Megadora Screwdrivers
In the course of saving all these bikes (and Yes, I realize I "Can't Save Them All" - but I can try!) I've managed to build up quite the collection of tools that have been really beneficial to me; to wit, here are some really cool tools that I can't live without, starting with my trusty set of Vessel Megadora screwdrivers!
If you're going to be working on old Japanese motorcycles, these are a MUST to have; Japanese motorcycles use what are known as JIS screws, or 'Japanese Industrial Standard'; they are NOT regular philips heads, and using a non-JIS screwdriver on them will chew them up and make them even harder to remove. I only use my Vessels on JIS screws, no other. That last silver-looking one is called an 'Impacta', supposedly a JIS impact screwdriver; it works, kinda...maybe I'm just not hitting it hard enough. A set of these Vessels will run you about $55 on Amazon, but there are other brands of JIS screwdrivers; just make sure they are designated 'JIS.'
Vessel Screwdriver Pro Tip: if you come across a screw that simply won't budge, try this: put a little grinding compound on the tip of the screwdriver and clamp a Vise Grip around it, like so:
Press in really hard with the screwdriver while turning the shaft with the Vise Grip - 9 times out of 10 you'll be able to break it free - that little *snap* when it does is Really satisfying! The grinding compound helps the screwdriver bite the screw, while the Vise Grip adds torque. You're welcome.
